A hotel chain is hoping to capitalize on the demand for kayaks in Vancouver’s downtown and offer a cheaper option.
Kayak Hotel and Spa is offering to rent kayaks to people who want to go to the beach or vacation in the city.
It’s the latest venture from a hotel chain that is already operating out of downtown Vancouver.
Kayaks are popular for boating, but in recent years the city has been losing money on the sport.
There were 2,000 to 3,000 complaints in 2016 about the quality of kayaks being used in the downtown, but it’s not clear if that number includes those from other properties in the area.
The chain is trying to change that with its own new venture in the Downtown, a partnership with the City of Vancouver.
The Vancouver Tourism Development Corporation is financing the new hotel, which is scheduled to open in early 2019.
A kayak rental is free for people in Vancouver.
You can rent one for $20 an hour with a one-week minimum.
Renting a kayaks for a weekend will set you back $1,000.
If you want to rent one every day of the year, you can rent for $8 an hour.
Rentals run from May through October.
Kayak prices vary, depending on where you are in the Vancouver area.
