The president’s new strategy is to go back to basics: Get the country back on track.
And that includes getting Puerto Rico back on the road.
“We are going to do everything we can to help rebuild Puerto Rico, including rebuilding roads and bridges and repairing power lines,” Trump said Wednesday.
“The island of Puerto Rico is on the brink of disaster, and we are going back to the basics.
We are going into a situation that has never happened in the history of our country.
We have not been to the island of America before.”
The president has also said that he intends to help the United States government in its fight against Zika, which has been linked to birth defects in infants and children, and is a direct threat to the health of the United Nations.
In his speech Wednesday, Trump stressed that he is still not convinced the Zika virus is real.
He also stressed the need to get more people to the hospitals.
“As a result of the lack of preparedness, I am sending a very clear message to the world: Our government is prepared,” he said.
“I have been in this office since Jan. 20, so I know what it is like to work with people that are prepared.
But this is not a time for me to just sit back and wait.”
